Thanksgiving was a day I had been planning for a long, long time. This was the fourth Thanksgiving I have spent away from my 'real' family, but the first time I have ever done it properly. Although there has always been a Roast of some sort to honour the day- this time I wanted to really go for it. I wanted to gather all my favourite people together and host a Thanksgiving dinner at my home-away-from-home with my makeshift family. There were 11 of us in the end, and considering I had never attempted half the dishes before it all turned out pretty well!

Turns out cooking for the better part of 2 days is manageable and oddly therapeutic. It also turns out I massively over-shot how much food it would take to feed 11 people and cornbread is a firm hit with the Brits... so searching high and low for cornmeal was worth it. A big thank you to my lovely mother for sending many a recipe and decoration! A big thank you to the lovely Victoria for making such cute name cards and bringing the best mulled wine ever brewed. And the biggest thank you to Waitrose for offering turkey delivery on Thanksgiving and stocking Libby's pumpkin!

Notes for next time:

Just because the Turkey says it needs to be cooked for four and a half hours doesn't mean it does. Ambiguous bread roll making recipes will result in chewy bread. Cranberry sauce needs way more brown sugar than you'd think! Garlic burns. Do not leave it roasting for 6 hours...
